Served with a claim?
You have 20 days from the day of service to file a Defence (Form 9A). Do not ignore the claim. If you do not file in time, the other side can get judgment against you without a hearing.
- 1. Find the date you were served. Count 20 days from that day. If the last day is a weekend or a holiday, the deadline moves to the next court day.
- 2. Read the claim. Note what the plaintiff says and what documents they attached.
- 3. File your Defence. The court fee is $77. You can dispute the claim, admit it and propose payments, or admit part of it. Our Defence builder arrives this fall. Until then, use the official Form 9A and the court guide.
